What's with the two-tone colors? Is that just for looks?

Mostly, yeah, and that's the fun part. The Defendo comes in ten colorways, most of them two-tone combos like Blue Green, Purple Hot Pink, and Black Red. For a rugged case, that's a lot of personality. You're not stuck with the usual black brick.

How is it built to take a hit?

Three layers doing different jobs. A hard front shell frames the screen, a reinforced back shell takes the brunt of a drop, and a flexible silicone skin wraps it all to soak up the shock. Together they're what let it shrug off the falls a tablet actually takes.

Where does my Apple Pencil go?

There's a holder built into the back, so your Pencil clips on and travels with the iPad instead of rolling off a desk or getting lost in a bag. Worth flagging: the Pencil itself isn't included, just the spot to keep yours.

Does the front shell mean there's a screen protector built in?

Not quite, and it's worth being clear. The hard front frame raises up around the edges to guard the screen from face-down knocks, but there's no screen film included. If you want a protector over the glass itself, you'd add one separately.

Can I stand it up to type or watch?

Yes. The built-in kickstand props the iPad at a stable angle, so you can type out an email, follow a recipe, or watch something without holding it the whole time. It's steady enough to lean on. Handy on a busy site, a commute, or a travel day where you're carrying three other things already.

Honestly, is this a heavy case?

It's on the substantial side, yes. That's the deal you're making for a hard front shell, reinforced back, and silicone skin all at once. If you want maximum protection and don't mind some heft, it fits. If you want feather-light, this isn't that case.
